The Makkan Period in Seerah & Palestine Today
Indeed, the Makkan period of the Prophetic Seerah is different from what Palestine today is, in terms of the historical context, the Makkan period did not pose any lesser challenges to the then Muslims. Few of the ordeals which the Muslims in Makkah faced back then, and the people of Palestine face today are:
*1. Persecution and opposition:* The early reverts to Islam faced physical abuse & torture, the Palestinians face the same today.
*2. Reliance on Allah:* Our noble Prophet ﷺ taught us to remain steadfast during the challenges, and hold on to the Rope of Allah, while also having hope in Him! The Palestinians do the same today. In so many videos that we say, we only saw them chanting “Allahu Akbar” and/or “Alhamdulillah”.
*3. Patience:* While the Makkans faced lot of hardships, they only remained patient, until a time came when Allah Ordered and Allowed the Muslims to defend their faith system. And from the very same Allah, we expect that a time will come when the Palestinians too get help from Allah, so that they can turn the tables of oppression over.
*4. Mutual help & support:* This is where the twist lies in the comparison of the then Muslims and today’s. Back in Seerah, the Ansaar of Madinah came forward and extended a helping hand to the Muslims – shared with them their houses, food, clothing, businesses, and everything else they could, and supported the oppressed Muhajiroon of Makkah. This kind of help for the Palestinians is missing today, especially by the Muslim political leaders – either due to their selfishness, cowardice, greed, foreign pressure, or anything else which Allah knows best.
While the courageous and the steadfast Palestinians seemingly stand alone today, cut off from the entire world, we are sure that Allah is with them. While we are ashamed that the Ummah cannot do anything for them, we’re not disappointed from Allah, but are sure that His Divine Help will sooner or later reach them, just like there were hardly any hopes of the 313 Muslims surviving in front of a professional pagan army of the Quraish at Badr, far goes winning it, but Allah helped the steadfast Muslims back then, and will surely do so every time, inshaAllah.
Ya Allah! Please help the oppressed Palestinians who’ve been on your chosen Deen, patient and committed. Grant them more Sabr Ya Allah. Console them with your Divine Mercy and Love. Grant them sustenance Ya Allah – especially to the people of Gaza who’ve been confined to an open-air prison for decades, and their supplies have now been completely cut – You are Al-Razzāq, the Sustainer Ya Allah, who grants food and life to every single soul! Ya Allah grant eternal bliss – Jannatul Firdaus to the ones who’ve been martyred in this oppression and war Ya Rab! And grant Shifa to the thousands injured there, Ya Shāfi! Help them Ya Rabbu Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ, bijaahi Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ, aameen!
